A JARDINE’S SPECIAL ENGAGEMENT…
BASSE, ALAADEEN

AND
THE CITY LIGHT ORCHESTRA:
A SILVER ANNIVERSARY REUNION!
*CELEBRATING THE RE-RELEASE
OF THEIR CLASSIC ALBUM
“RAISED SPIRITS”
KANSAS CITY: David Basse, Alaadeen and The City Light Orchestra celebrate the Silver Anniversary re-release of their classic album “Raised Spirits,” at a special Jardine’s restaurant and jazz club engagement, October 27 and 28, 2008 (two shows nightly). Reservations are recommended at (816) 561-6480.
March 30, 1984, David Basse, Alaadeen and The City Light Orchestra released their recording “Raised Spirits” to a packed house at Kansas City’s Historic Folly Theater. The album was a smash and the City Light Restaurant, where it all began, was named by Esquire Magazine one of the Top 100 clubs in America.
Basse, has been at the forefront of the music scene at this legendary jazz capital for a quarter century. Featured at “Wolf Trap and All That Jazz,” and as a part of the 1997 Inaugural Gala for President Bill Clinton, he has represented Kansas City Jazz at such international venues as London’s Harrods, Palacio De Congressi in Lugano, Switzerland; excelled on the concert stage at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Jazz Aspen-Snowmass; and has recorded with many jazz greats, including Phil Woods, Les McCann, and Grammy nominated pianist Mike Melvoin. Basse is also a familiar name as host of radio’s popular “Jazz Scene” on Kansas Public Radio (NPR).
Alaadeen is Kansas City Lifetime Achievement, Jazz Heritage, and Missouri Humanities Council Award-winner, known as the educator of choice for Twenty First Century Kansas City Music. The composer, educator and performer, playing sax with such jazz legends as Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald and The Count Basie and Jay McShann Orchestras, is also the Musical Director of Kansas City’s annual Grave Site Lament and Celebration of the Birthday of jazz immortal Charlie Bird Parker.
The City Light Orchestra has long been hailed as Kansas City’s premier swingin’ jazz ensemble, and the Jardine’s special Silver Anniversary appearance will mark the re-release of the Basse/Alaadeen signature album “Raised Spirits.” Described by critics as having “a kind of no-nonsense after-midnight musical purity that is produced only by the blues or good jazz… [Raised Spirits] draws on David Basse’s raspy vocals and Ahmad Alaadeen’s visceral saxophone solos for much of its power.”
“Raised Spirits,” will be on sale during the engagement at Jardine’s. For reservations please call Jardine’s at (816) 561-6480.
