“Leawood Long and Lean” March 18, 2008
When asked what he does for a living, recording artist and entertainer David Basse often says, “I’m in the music business.” While still a teenager, David joined Musician’s Union local 41-627 in Kansas City and started performing nightly in a band that included pianist Joe Cartwright. David later became a charter member of Kansas City’s popular City Light Orchestra along side saxophonist Ahmed Alaadeen.
After moving to Los Angeles in 1992, David started his collaboration with legendary studio musician Mike Melvoin. Mike was awarded a Grammy Nomination in 2004 for his City Light Entertainment release “It’s Always You.” This year, in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of Leawood, Kansas, David and Mike have written “Leawood Long and Lean.” The song will be premiered at the Leawood 60th Anniversary event honoring current and former elected officials. The event is hosted by the Leawood Woman’s Club and will be held on Thursday, April 17, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the Oak Room of City Hall at 4800 Town Center Drive in Leawood. Those who would like to attend are asked to RSVP Alice Hawk, the coordinator for Leawood’s 60th Anniversary. achawk4706@aol.com
